Intrusive rocks are predominantly granodioritic in composition and range in age from late Paleozoic to Upper Miocene (Munizaga et al., 1988). The basement of the Villarrica volcano consists of intrusive and volcanic rocks that range in age from Late Paleozoic to Miocene (Aguirre and Levi, 1964 Parada, 1975 Moreno and Parada, 1976 Munizaga et al., 1988), and sedimentary deposits related to the middle to late Pleistocene glaciations in the region (Moreno, 1993, Clapperton, 1993, Clayton et al., 1997). However, recent detailed volcanologic and stratigraphic studies (Moreno, 1993 Clavero and Moreno, 1994,1998 Moreno et al., 1994 Clavero, 1996) show intense explosive postglacial activity with, at least, 15 mapeable deposits of pyroclastic flows and surges in the last 14 ka, two of which were of large volume: the Licán and Pucón ignimbrites. Eruptive activity of the Villarrica volcano has commonly been considered to be dominantly effusive to slightly explosive (mainly strombolian eruptions, González, 1972 Fuentealba et al., 1985 Moreno,1993). This structure probably corresponds to an old fracture in the crust, which has been used by Quaternary magmas to reach the surface (Franzese, 1995). The Villarrica volcano (2,850 m Above Sea Level) forms a NW-SE volcanic chain, together with the Pleistocene-Holocene Quetrupillán and Lanín stratovolcanoes, that is oblique to the recent volcanic arc and to a main structure located in the region, the Liquine-Ofqui Fault Zone (LOFZ Hickey et al., 1989 Cembrano, 1990 Cembrano et al., 1992 Cembrano and Moreno, 1994 López-Escobar et al., 1995). It has an active summit lava lake (30 to 60 m diameter) since the last eruption in 1984-85 (Calder et al., 2004). It is one of the most active Chilean volcanoes with 59 documented eruptions since 1558 (Petit-Breuilh and Lobato, 1994 Lara and Clavero, 2004). In 2018, a Kilauea eruption destroyed more than 700 homes.Villarrica volcano is located in the volcanic chain of the Southern Volcanic Zone (SVZ) of the Chilean Andes. Kilauea, Hawaii's second-largest volcano, erupted from September 2021 until last December. The observatory said it "does not see any indication of activity migrating elsewhere on Kīlauea volcano and expects the eruption to remain confined to the summit region." The current eruption was confined to Kilauea caldera within the park. Crowds flocked to the Big Island's Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which offered safe views of the lava. In June, Kilauea erupted for several weeks, displaying fountains of red lava without threatening any communities or structures.

Matt talks about his past, such as what got him in the cabin, to begin with: a murder-suicide involving some man he was tracking virtually. "White Christmas" is about two men – Joe ( Rafe Spall) and Matt ( Jon Hamm) – who have lived with each other for five years in a cabin despite this, they know very little about each other. After that, Sara walks out of her mother's life to parts unknown. After discovering that her mother continued to invade her privacy and gave her the pill, she beat her mother with the Arkangel pad until she was bloody and unconscious. But the most surprising part (and what cements this as one of the most messed up Black Mirror episodes) was when Sara almost killed her mother towards the end. There were several surprising moments in "Arkangel," one being when Marie’s mother invades her teenage daughter’s privacy and secretly crushes a pill into Sara's smoothie to force an abortion. Marie becomes obsessed with the Arkangel and keeps a careful eye on her daughter, but it proves to be detrimental to Sara's mental health and developmental stages. After a traumatic experience when Sara was younger where she wandered off, Marie resorts to a company that sells an implanted chip called Arkangel which tracks the user, records their memories, provides a view into their perspective, censors anything that raises their heart rate, and records data of their health. It follows the story of Marie ( Rosemarie DeWitt), a mother of a young girl named Sara. "Arkangel" is one of the more popular episodes of Black Mirror. It's a rare Black Mirror episode that isn't completely depressing, which is what makes it somewhat shocking. It is overall surprising that the two of them turned out to be perfect matches when the entirety of the episode leads the audience to believe that they will not end up together and that their love story will end in demise as any clichéd one would, but it turns out to be pleasantly surprising when it’s confirmed that this was a simple simulation meant to test their compatibility. This makes them an almost perfect match in the real world. Out of all the simulations, in 998 of them, they rebelled together. These characters eventually find themselves dissatisfied with every other partner they have.Īlthough this show is straightforward with the concept, it is revealed towards the end that both characters were in a simulation – the 1000th one – where it succeeded because they figured out that they were in a simulation and escaped it together. They realize that they sync well with one another on their first date, but after their date is over, they have to continue dating others to find their perfect match. This story in particular follows two people, Frank ( Joe Cole) and Amy ( Georgina Campbell), who date for a fairly short period. Black Mirror’s episode "Hang the DJ" is about a dating app that finds the best match for a person by pairing them with a variety of different people. So, even if your shifter is working, it's worth taking a look to see if it's really solid in there. At the top end, the detente plate was shimmed with 8 thin washers (all carefully cut into quarters) and the space between the shift arm and the return spring was shimmed with a nut. The bottom bearing was replaced with a piece of pvc pipe. In my case, the column had been opened up before and jury-rigged. The rubber boot on the firewall needs to come off. Behind it is the shift arm and one of the two bolts mounting the steering shaft to the firewall. The side attached to the steering shaft is already removed. Here's how it looked when I had the column out:Īs a final note, you never can tell what someone has done before you. If I were doing this again, I would loosen it early-a shop light shining through the opening from behind makes the process of working under the hood easier. Image 6: The 55-57 ididit tilt steering columns are 3-1/2' shorter than the stock steering column. Next remove the two 5/16' X l' bolts that hold the bracket to the firewall and slide the bracket down, off the end of the steer ing column. Late in the process, I figured out that the rubber boot at the bottom of the column had to be loosened. Remove the upper 5/16'X 3' bolt and nut that squeezes the bracket around the steering column. You can see them way down there, on the far right of this shot: I know the process for the repair of the pressed hub but I have had to disassemble the directional signal assembly and a few other things popped up. Finally, I took off the corner brace and the valve cover, which gave me just enough room to get to the bolts on the firewall. Between the steering wheel and the telescoping adjusting sleeve is a press fit hub assembly and mine has separated. The brake master cylinder is in the way-but I just put that in and wasn't going to take it back out. Some instructions start with removal of the hood hinge, but I was worried about the hood being supported on one hinge. Most likely the neutral safety switch above the bottom of the steering column. I have long, skinny arms, but still had a terrible time getting to the bolts on the rag joint, and an even more difficult time reaching the two bolts on the firewall that mount the steering column. I thought I'd note them here in case they can help anyone in the future.Īs I posted earlier, I had a sloppy shifter and a completely broken rag joint (steering coupler) on my 64 hardtop. I read as many of them as I could before starting the job, but still found a few surprises. There are lots of posts in the archives on shifter repair and steering column removal. A heavy blues influence, with KC songs often based around a 12-bar blues structure, rather than the 32-bar AABA standard (although Moten Swing is in this AABA format). This further contributed to the loose, spontaneous Kansas City sound. The KC big bands often played by memory, composing and arranging the music collectively, rather than sight-reading as other big bands of the time did. It was not uncommon for one "song" to be performed for several hours, with the best musicians often soloing for dozens of choruses at a time. Fueled by the non-stop nightlife under political boss Tom Pendergast, Kansas City jam sessions continued until later than sunrise, fostering a highly competitive atmosphere and a unique jazz culture in which the goal was to "say something" with one's instrument, rather than simply show off one's technique. This gave Kansas City jazz a more relaxed, fluid sound than previous jazz styles. A preference for a 4 feel (walking) over the 2 beat feel found in other jazz styles of the time.Kansas City jazz is distinguished by the following musical elements: Pendergast was convicted of income tax fraud in 1940 and the city cracked down on the clubs effectively ending the era. Kansas City influence overtly transferred to the national scene in 1936 when record producer John Hammond discovered Count Basie on his car radio. Ĭlubs were scattered throughout city but the most fertile area was the inner city neighborhood of 18th Street and Vine.Īmong the clubs were the Amos 'n' Andy, Boulevard Lounge, Cherry Blossom, Chesterfield Club, Chocolate Bar, Dante's Inferno, Elk's Rest, Hawaiian Gardens, Hell's Kitchen, the Hi Hat, the Hey Hay Club, Lone Star, Old Kentucky Bar-B-Que, Paseo Ballroom, Pla-Mor Ballroom, Reno Club, Spinning Wheel, Street's Blue Room, Subway, and Sunsetx. playing the wrong thing, we'd straighten you out. You'd hear some cat play, and somebody would say "This cat, he sounds like he is from Kansas City." It was Kansas City Style. Jay McShann told the Associated Press in 2003: In the 1930s, a hybrid style between Kansas City jazz and big band was the most popular form of jazz music in the United States, often being played in popular venues and ballrooms. Often members of the big bands would perform at regular venues earlier in the evening and go to the jazz clubs later to jam for the rest of the night. Most of the jazz musicians associated with the style were born in other places but got caught up in the friendly musical competitions among performers that could keep a single song being performed in variations for an entire night. Kansas City was a wide open town with liquor laws and hours totally ignored and was called the new Storyville. The era marked the zenith of power of political boss Tom Pendergast. Transcontinental trips at the time, whether by plane or train, often necessitated a stop in the city. Kansas City in the 1930s was very much the crossroads of the United States resulting in a mix of cultures. However, the Kansas City jazz school is identified with the black bands of the 1920s and 1930s, including those led by Bennie Moten, Andy Kirk, Harlan Leonard, George E. The first band from Kansas City to acquire a national reputation was the Coon-Sanders Original Nighthawk Orchestra, a white group which broadcast nationally in the 1920s. Kansas City was known for the organized musicians of the Local 627 A.F.M., which controlled a number of venues in the city. Louis, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and New York City. Other cities include New Orleans, Chicago, St. Thus, Kansas City is known as one of the most popular "cradles of jazz". It has been said that while New Orleans was the birthplace of jazz, "America's music" grew up in Kansas City. The hard- swinging, bluesy transition style is bracketed by Count Basie, who in 1929 signed with Bennie Moten's Kansas City Orchestra, and Kansas City native Charlie Parker, who ushered in the bebop style in America. Kansas City jazz is a style of jazz that developed in Kansas City, Missouri during the 1920s and 1930s, which marked the transition from the structured big band style to the much more improvisational style of bebop.
